NASDAQ Dubai announced in January that it has teamed up with The Options Industry Council (OIC) to create an equity options education programme. This will support the equity derivatives market launched by NASDAQ Dubai in November 2008, which consists of futures initially, with options likely to be added in early 2009.

Jeff Singer, Chief Executive of NASDAQ Dubai, said: "We aim to play a key role in delivering information about the opportunities offered by equity options trading. Options traded on-exchange have the potential to become a major asset class in the region as investors seek to insure against risk." Read the press release

NASDAQ Dubai Academy will tailor content provided by the Chicago-based OIC to deliver seminars explaining options for institutional and individual investors, as well as brokers.

Speaking at the FOW Derivatives World Middle East 2009 conference in Dubai in January, Peter FitzGerald, Chief Operating Officer of NASDAQ Dubai, explained the advantages of trading derivatives on-exchange compared to over-the-counter trading.
