The value of equities traded in August 2020 reached USD 1,558,952, down 98% from USD 73,423,611 in August 2019 and down 34% from USD 2,344,251 in July 2020. Volume in August 2020 reached 8,020,268 shares, down 5% from 8,449,914 shares in August 2019 and down 62% from 20,874,208 shares in July 2020.
The FTSE Nasdaq Dubai UAE 20 index ended August 2020 at 2,750.24, up 8.45% from 2,535.95 at the end of July 2020.
The index tracks 20 liquid stocks listed on Dubai Financial Market and Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. It has been designed as a hedging and investment mechanism for GCC and international investors.
On Nasdaq Dubai’s equity futures market, traded value in August 2020 reached AED 1.25 million, up 3% from AED 1.22 million in July 2020. A total of 15,010 contracts traded in August 2020, up 34% from 11,216 contracts in July 2020. The most active broker (excluding market-making) by value on the equity futures market in August 2020 was BH Mubasher Financial Services followed by AL DAR Shares and Bonds.
The futures market currently consists of single stock futures on 16 UAE-listed companies and 12 Saudi Arabia-listed companies, as well as index futures on DFM’s DFMGI index, ADX’s ADI index, MSCI’s UAE equity index and the FTSE Saudi Arabia Index
