Trading statistics – December 2018
The value of equities traded on Nasdaq Dubai in all of 2018 reached USD 1,153,742,494, a decline of 13% from USD 1,330,719,987 in 2017. Volume reached 164,637,853 shares in all of 2018, down 40% from 273,279,795 shares in 2017.
The value of equities traded in December 2018 reached USD 76,916,126, up 10% from USD 69,706,410 in December 2017 and 7.8% down from USD 83,448,608 in November 2018. Volume in December 2018 reached 20,503,486 shares, up 35% from 15,184,431 shares in December 2017 and up 54% from 13,344,548 shares in November 2018.
The FTSE Nasdaq Dubai UAE 20 index ended December 2018 at 3,074.32, up 0.3% from 3,066.31 at the end of November and down 6.5% from 3,288.69 at the end of December 2017.
The index tracks 20 liquid stocks listed on Dubai Financial Market, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and Nasdaq Dubai. It has been designed as a hedging and investment mechanism for GCC and international investors.
On Nasdaq Dubai’s equity futures market, traded value reached AED 44.05 million in December 2018, an increase of 110% from AED 20.98 million in November 2018. A total of 216,918 contracts traded in December, up 179% from 77,785 contracts in November. The most active broker by value on the equity futures market in December was Brokerage House Securities, followed by Integrated Securities and then EFG Hermes UAE.
The futures market currently consists of single stock futures on 17 UAE-listed companies as well as index futures on DFM’s DFMGI index and ADX’s ADI index.
