The value of equities traded in February 2020 reached USD 390,063,648, up 588% from USD 56,666,658 in February 2019 and up 234% from USD 116,515,152 in January 2020. Volume in February 2020 reached 40,036,647 shares, up 372% from 8,480,757 shares in February 2019 and up 201% from 13,309,683 shares in January 2020.
The FTSE Nasdaq Dubai UAE 20 index ended February 2020 at 3,038.36, down 6% from 3,237.85 at the end of January 2020.
The index tracks 20 liquid stocks listed on Dubai Financial Market, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and Nasdaq Dubai. It has been designed as a hedging and investment mechanism for GCC and international investors.
On Nasdaq Dubai’s equity futures market, traded value in February 2020 reached AED 11.66 million, down 5% from AED 12.29 million in January 2020. A total of 40,495 contracts traded in February 2020, down 2% from 41,373 contracts in January 2020. The most active broker (excluding market-making) by value on the equity futures market in February 2020 was BH Mubasher followed by SHUAA Securities and then Al Ramz Capital.
The futures market currently consists of single stock futures on 17 UAE-listed companies as well as index futures on DFM’s DFMGI index and ADX’s ADI index.
