The value of equities traded in May 2020 reached USD 102,337,656, down 43% from USD 180,391,496 in May 2019 and down 73% from USD 372,292,535 in April 2020. Volume in May 2020 reached 11,796,823 shares, down 2% from 11,993,219 shares in May 2019 and down 63% from 31,670,796 shares in April 2020.
The FTSE Nasdaq Dubai UAE 20 index ended May 2020 at 2,419.69, down 2% from 2,464.22 at the end of April 2020.
The index tracks 20 liquid stocks listed on Dubai Financial Market, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and Nasdaq Dubai. It has been designed as a hedging and investment mechanism for GCC and international investors.
On Nasdaq Dubai’s equity futures market, traded value in May 2020 reached AED 1.55 million, down 68% from AED 4.92 million in April 2020. A total of 11,337 contracts traded in May 2020, down 60% from 28,511 contracts in April 2020. The most active broker (excluding market-making) by value on the equity futures market in May 2020 was BH Mubasher followed by Mena Corp Financial Services.
The futures market currently consists of single stock futures on 16 UAE-listed companies and 12 Saudi Arabia-listed companies, as well as index futures on DFM’s DFMGI index, ADX’s ADI index, MSCI’s UAE equity index and the FTSE Saudi Arabia Index.
